Investment Guidelines

Churches and other religious organizations have a fiduciary obligation to be prudent in managing the funds entrusted to them. Their legal obligation is set forth (in most states) in the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act and Uniform Prudent Investor Act. While you should rely on legal counsel for an understanding of what these statutes require, there are a few basic principles that are particularly relevant:

Diversification

You likely must mitigate risk by broadly diversifying your investment portfolio among different asset classes.

Suitability

You may also be required to invest only in “suitable” assets based on your tolerance for risk and objectives.  Highly speculative investments (options, futures, leveraged etfs) should be avoided.

Non-Profits

Non-profits have unique investment needs. You may require investments that align with your values. You often need clearly defined goals with an investment strategy to meet them.
You require a firm to assess risk and help you with long-term planning. At Stevens Capital PartnersSM, we are more than asset managers. We customize portfolios for our non-profit clients that manage risk and help achieve short and long-term goals.

We are a fiduciary partner, helping you safeguard and grow the funds entrusted to you. You have a core mission as a non-profit. So do we.  It’s helping you achieve your mission.

At Stevens Capital PartnersSM, we are fiduciaries to all our clients.

We have the same legal obligation to you as you have when managing your assets. Our investment philosophy is consistent with the guidelines outlined in the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act and the Uniform Prudent Investor Act.

We can also construct portfolios that meet the unique requirements of a church for investments that consider sustainability, mission -related issues, or other screening.

Tax issues

As a religious organization, you are exempt from taxes on donations and earnings from your investments.

We work with your tax professionals to maximize the tax benefits afforded to you under IRC Section 501(c)(3) and to ensure you meet those requirements.
